The Importance Of Kitchen Cabinet Dimensions by: William Paz

When you are designing a new kitchen, the kitchen cabinet dimensions are of great importance. This is because you do need to know the size of each piece of cabinetry and have room for your appliances. With so many different ways of making cabinets you can have a combination of wide and narrow doors as well as pantry style cabinets with pull out drawers and shelving.

If you plan to have the sink in front of a window, make sure it is in the center of the window. Then you can measure the space on both sides for the cabinets. If you plan to have a dishwasher, then this should go next to the sink. The refrigerator and the stove should never be places side by side. You plan for the layout of the kitchen needs to have space for both and the rangehood. If you want to have a combination microwave and rangehood, this will affect the dimensions of the cabinets above the stove.

You should plan for at least 50 square feet of storage space in your kitchen cabinets. This includes the top and bottom cabinets. There should be one row of drawers where you can keep your utensils and you can plan to have these next to the stove or the sink – whichever suits your needs best. Wall cabinets are usually 12 to 13 inches deep and can be anywhere from 12 to 34 inches in height. When you add the two inches for the countertop, your cabinets will be the standard 3 feet high.

There are specialty cabinets available for corner spaces, called garages, where you can put your appliances in out of sight and pull down a roll-top door. In the bottom corner cabinets you may opt for a Lazy Susan that swings outward, making it very easy to reach the articles you place inside. These devices are made to fit the standard corner cabinet dimensions.

Although cabinets are of standard height, you can have the top cabinets right to the ceiling, install a bulkheading so that you don’t have an opening between the cabinets and the ceiling or stagger the heights of each one to give your kitchen a different appeal.
